The chairs, their materials, their ergonomics and their construction were specifically developed for use in production areas. We have worked together with experts in the field alongside researchers from the Fraunhofer Institut. For instance, the Supertec upholstery cover material has been developed specifically for the demands of production halls: It is ultra-robust, easy to wash, withstands knocks against hard edges and is extremely comfortable.

A workplace chair for use in assembly halls, production lines or workshops need to fulfil certain requirements:
  • Robust chairs that can withstand flying sparks, grease, oils and other harsh conditions
  • Materials that are easy to clean and resilient
  • Adjustment options that enhance the industrial ergonomics

Yes, all Bimos chairs for production are also available in an ESD version. Click here to find out more about ESD chairs.

We have developed the upholstery material Supertec especially for production environments. Supertec is an innovative and unique material that combines the benefits of fabric and integral foam (PU) in one. It is easy to clean and keep clean, breathable and does not cause users to sweat. Thanks to its micro-plating, it is extremely robust and durable, yet soft and comfortable.

The integral foam (PU) upholstery is also highly suitable where conditions are harsh.

Integral foam (PU) withstands aggressive working materials such as oils, fats, light acids or alkalis, as well as metal shavings and flying sparks.

Artificial leather and fabric can be used in production environments that are less dirty. Both materials are very hard-wearing and artificial leather is also very easy to care for and resistant to disinfectants.

Yes, the ESD chairs from Bimos fulfil the requirements of DIN EN 61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 for use in EPAs and ensure maximum safety through the overall ESD discharge across all components.
Read more about the ESD compatibility of the Bimos chairs here.
The ESD chairs have numerous properties that provide comprehensive ESD protection. This includes conductive comfort upholstery, volume-conductive plastics, conductive coated steel parts, volume-conductive castors and glides and an overall ESD discharge across all components.

ESD protection is regulated by the international standard EN 61340. According to this, the following applies for workplace chairs: "The resistance at all areas of the seat that could, when used normally, come into contact with the human body must have a contact point with the floor of less than 109Ω." (Excerpt from the standard EN 61340-5-1). Bimos chairs have a typical discharge resistance of 106Ω.
The discharge resistance of all ESD chairs from Bimos is tested prior to delivery. That way, you can be sure that your chair will meet the requirements of the DIN EN 61340-5-1 standard and dissipates reliably.
No, the level of ESD protection is unaffected by time. It is possible, however, that some parts develop an insulating layer if they get dusty or dirty. This is particularly the case with castors. This is easily prevented by regularly cleaning the chairs.
No, generally speaking, all components must have consistent discharge capacity throughout. This means that from the upper part of the chair (seat and back) to the floor (castors or glides), all parts and all materials must be ESD-protected.
No, this is not possible in practical terms, because virtually all parts would have to be replaced.
Yes, all plastic parts relevant to ESD protection are made from volume-conductive material.

Supertec is the best upholstery solution in ESD areas. Specially developed for the manufacturing sector, this is not only resilient and conductive, it is also extremely soft, comfortable and breathable. There are also all the other upholstery options available.

Fabric offers the best seating comfort and works very well in clean environments such as the ESD area.

Artificial leather is a soft, comfortable material that doesn't contain any PVC, which makes it especially durable. And integral foam (PU) withstands external influences, e.g. from sharp-edged objects, at all times.

The laboratory chairs from Bimos have ergonomic functions specifically designed for sitting in the laboratory. For instance, the mechanism supports the body during long hours of work leaning forwards. Above all, the chairs have a hygienic design, which means they fulfil the high cleanliness requirements that apply in many laboratories. A hygienic design involves, among other things, minimal joints and disinfectant-resistant materials that are easy to clean.
Read more about the laboratory-compatibility of the laboratory chairs here.
LABSIT and TEXON are suitable for all laboratories: Pharmaceutical, chemical, medical, genetic engineering, biotechnological, food technology, environmental technology and life sciences. They fulfil the highest laboratory standards and are GMP-compliant, suitable for laboratories in safety classes S1, S2, S3, and fulfil the requirements of air cleanliness class 3 as defined by EN ISO 14644-1. If a high level of seating comfort is required for demanding work tasks in the laboratory, NEON and TEXON are the most suitable options. They offer impressive ergonomic adjustments and benefit the health of employees who have to sit for long periods. However, they do not meet the requirements for the safety classes and the air cleanliness class.
The most fundamental requirement is that the surfaces can be disinfected. Specific provisions/certifications (GMP, safety laboratories S1–S4, cleanroom properties, etc.) often need to be considered as well. Furthermore, the working conditions in the laboratory (activity, environment, multi-use, etc.) play an important part in choosing the right chair.
Read here for more information about what makes our laboratory chairs suitable for laboratories.

The synchronous mechanism ensures that seated tasks are still active and dynamic. The seat and backrest move backwards synchronously in a fixed relationship, moving with the whole body in every movement. This ensures the lumbar spine is always supported and there is no space between the back and the backrest when leaning back. If the mechanism is correctly adjusted to the user's body weight, it gives a feeling of "weightless gliding". The synchronous mechanism encourages frequent changes in sitting position, which in turn promotes healthier posture among employees. To guarantee a firm support, the backrest can be locked in various positions.
The permanent contact backrest is a simpler alternative to the synchronous mechanism. Only the backrest moves when the user leans back. To maintain the support, the backrest can be locked in different positions.
The Auto-Motion technology with Flex-Back is the innovative mechanism of the TEXON.
Take a seat and automatically adopt a good posture without no need for any complex adjustments to the chair - this is made possible by Auto-Motion technology.. The seat and backrest dynamically remain in contact with the body, creating a feeling of floating and gliding. The automatic weight regulation ensures that the backrests provide optimal resistance, supporting active-dynamic sitting. Each individual user is therefore supported intuitively, in a manner that suits their needs.
The Flex-Back increases the flexibilityof the backrest and allows for slight, relieving movements in the back; can also be locked as necessary.

The 3-level preselection allows you to set the ideal operating range for each task.

Level 1 has a small range of movement and therefore offers optimum support for tasks that require a lot of force or effort.

Level 2 has a moderate range of movement, making it suitable for tasks with a short workpiece-to-eye distance.

Level 3 offers the full range of movement, making it ideal for tasks involving extensive movement and reaching distances.

In contrast to weight adjustment, the automatic weight adjustment adjusts the counterpressure of the backrest to suit the user's body weight automatically. Manual adjustment is not necessary.
In contrast to weight adjustment, the automatic weight adjustment adjusts the counterpressure of the backrest to suit the user's body weight automatically. Manual adjustment is not necessary.
The seat inclination adjustment allows the seat to be tilted forward. This ensures that even when performing forward-leaning tasks, the angle between the thigh and back remains at least 90°.
Seat depth adjustment adapts the depth of the seat to the height or, specifically, the thigh length of the user, and therefore provides an ideal surface for the thighs to rest on. Contact between the backrest and the back, and therefore the back's support, is always maintained.
With seat inclination adjustment, only the seat can be adjusted forwards and backwards. This has no impact on the angle of the backrest. When the chair is tilted, the entire upper section of the chair can be tilted. This way, the backrest always remains in contact with the user's upper body.
A height-adjustable backrest enables users to adapt the lumbar support to their own back. By adjusting the height of the backrest, the chair's integrated lumbar support can be adapted. This should be around the height of the third lumbar vertebrate (approx. waist level). This effectively prevents back pain and tension.
The lumbar is the medical term for the natural forward curvature of the human spine. Lumbar support describes a pronounced ergonomic shape especially in the lower portion of the backrest. This supports the natural S-shape of the lumbar spine, relieving the strain on the lower back and providing more stability.
The backrest cannot move forwards unintentionally even after the lock has been released. It must first be "picked up" by a counterpressure.
A footrest is required at all workstations where the feet are no longer in contact with the floor when sitting (in a correct posture). Find out more about the footrests (footrest link) here.

We have standard heights, most of which range from around 450 mm to around 620 mm. However, it is possible to install a lower or higher gas spring. We will be happy to give you advice on the matter. Contact us.

Castors offer excellent manoeuvrability and freedom of movement. The floor is a hugely influential factor in the rolling performance, so the castors must be matched to the floor in question. Soft castors for hard floors such as stone floors or PVC and hard castors for soft floors such as carpet. The chairs are fitted with soft castors as standard.

Glides are the right choice when a firm footing is required, for example for activities that require a lot of force or effort. All high versions of the chairs are fitted with glides as standard in accordance with the DIN 68 877-1 standard.

Alternatively, high versions can also be fitted with Stop & Go castors. The chair retains its manoeuvrability. The castors lock in position under the weight of a person, preventing the chair from rolling away.
Castors and glides can be replaced on almost all chairs. We will be happy to give you advice on the matter.
The choice between hard or soft castors depends primarily on the nature of the floor. For soft flooring such as carpets, hard castors are best suited and vice versa.
Load-dependent braked standard castors can be fitted with a seat height of up to 650 mm. Beyond this height, glides or Stop & Go castors must be used.
A mounting aid is required for higher chairs to enable the user to get on and off safely. All Bimos chairs with a seat height of 650 mm or more come with a mounting aid in accordance with the standard. The mounting aid is attached beneath the seat shell, so when the seat height is adjusted, the mounting aid is also adjusted. It can also be folded away to create more leg room.
Higher chairs can alternatively be fitted with Stop & Go castors instead of glides. This way, the chair retains its manoeuvrability. The castors lock in position under the weight of a person, preventing the chair from rolling away.
No, castors are generally not permitted for standing rests due to the risk of accidents.
Armrests are available for all models. We have 2-D armrests (LABSIT), which are adjustable in height and width. All other models can be optionally equipped with 4D armrests. The 4D armrests are adjustable in height, width and depth and have a swivelling armrest.
The armrests can also be ordered and fitted retrospectively.
All armrests can be retrofitted and, if necessary, removed again.
A 4D armrest can be adjusted in height, depth, width and angle. They can pivot as well.
